The Many Benefits of Kava Kava

There are a huge number of benefits of Kava Kava. The indigenous people of the South Pacific have been enjoying this herb for years, and more and more people across the rest of the world are starting to follow suit. Scientists believe the root of the plant works a bit like a neurotransmitter, sending “feel good” messages to the brain. The active ingredients within the root of the plant are called kavalactones. It would seem that these work on the part of the brain that produce emotions. The kavalactones don’t alter the chemicals in the brain as some medicines can, but instead they simple alter the way emotions are processed. This results in a feeling of calm and general well being. When Kava Kava is taken the body becomes more relaxed whilst remaining highly alert and focused.

Kava and Insomnia

Although we all sometimes have a restless night here or there or difficulty getting to sleep on occasion, those with insomnia suffer continuously. Sheer exhaustion throughout the day and a body that does not receive adequate amounts of sleep can lead to a whole host of health problems - in the short term these can be mild, but over a long period of time they can worsen.

Although lifestyle changes can have a positive effect on insomnia such as eating the right foods, getting enough exercise and cutting out coffee, alcohol and smoking, it is often only pills and tablets that seem to help sufferers get any sleep at all.

Relying on chemical pills from a pharmacy however can lead to a host of further problems down the line however such as addiction or severe side-effects. A much better alternative is to turn to a herbal, non-addictive supplement such as Kava Kava for relief of insomnia and aid to a good night's sleep.
