Kava Chocolate Brew

If you are looking for a smooth way to enjoy your Kava then this drink could be for you.  Can be sweetened with optional chocolate syrup.

Ingredients:

    ½ cup Ground Kava Root
    2 cups Water
    1 cup Milk

Required Items:

    Measuring Cups
    Blender
Wire-mesh Strainer (the kind that sits on top of a bowl)
    Large Bowl
Cheesecloth, Sock, or Scrap of T-shirt Material (optional)
    Large Drinking Cup
    Chocolate syrup (optional)

Put the powdered kava root into the blender.

Add 2 cups (500ml) of water and 1 cup (250ml) of milk

Blend the mixture on high power for 2-4 minutes

If you like a smooth drink, you should strain the liquid through a cheesecloth or strainer. Do this by placing the strainer over a large bowl and pour on the liquid gradually. Strain as many times as you feel necessary. If you leave the mixture unstrained, the powder will settle on the bottom and it will also result in a stronger brew.

Pour into a large cup and enjoy!

Alternatively at this point, you can add some flavoured syrup. Chocolate flavoured syrup is particularly good, but it depends on your personal taste. Coffee is another good addition or Ovaltine. A sprinkle of cinnamon, nutmeg or cardamom works well. Add any additions at the end of the process so staining is easier.

This recipe provides 3 litres of drink to be taken over the course of an evening or two. Any leftovers will keep in the fridge however for a couple of days at least.

Try using different blends of kava with this recipe for variation and to find the perfect taste for you.

You can add more milk if desired, however it does make the drink quite heavy and filling. Using less than 1 cup in this recipe detracts from the taste. A ratio of 2:1 as used in this recipe is about right.
